Longest German Word

German language is infamous for long words and for sticking long words together to create even longer words.

Just for fun here's the longest word (67 letters!) listed in the Duden *:

Grundstücksverkehrsgenehmigungszuständigkeitsübertragungsverordnung

It refers to an outdated legal property regulation and like with much of the German language you can work it all out logically.

Grundstück: plot of land
Verkehr: traffic
Genehmigung: approval
Zuständigkeit: responsibility
Übertragung: transmission
Verordnung: regulation

*The Duden is the original and most respected German Dictionary.

It's currently in its 25th edition and published in 12 volumes.

Not for the light-hearted!!!
